NAFKAM skal fokusere på særleg vanlege helseproblem og -plagar hjå befolkinga, særleg hjå sårbare pasientgrupper der problemet har stor negativ innverknad på livskvaliteten til individet. Eit døme på dette er kreft.
Her følgjer ei kronologisk oversikt over vitskaplege publikasjonar om temaet alternativ behandling ved kreft; der tilsette ved NAFKAM er blant forfattarane. I tillegg driv NAFKAM det internasjonale forskingssamarbeidet CAM Cancer, som pr dato tilbyr meir enn 75 ope tilgjengelege oppsummeringar av forsking på ulike alternative behandlingsformer brukt ved kreft.
