Use of alternative therapies (CAM including traditional medicine) amongst Norwegian children is poorly documented. International research shows that between 6 and 91% uses some form of CAM. Many parents to children with cancer experience that they stand alone when exposed to advice and recommendations on the use of CAM for their children. It is hard to navigate in a market where the offer of healing and help are contradictory and complex
In this research procject we wish to:
- Establish an overview of the current international knowledge with regard to prevlence of CAM in children with cancer (study 1).
- Identify how parents with children who have survived cancer experienced, and dealt with, treatment recommendations in the CAM area.
In additon, we will identify which channels of support parents would have found helpful when faced with treatment recommendaations in this area
The study is financed by the Norwegian Children Cancer Society, Troms and Finnmark
